a Comparative general population data in this chapter have
been taken mainly from the 1997 Health Survey, because this was a year
when the child sample was substantially increased in size. In some cases
the relevant topic was not covered in the 1997 Health Survey, or the
questions were not asked in exactly the same way. In these cases the
general poulation figures are taken from the most recent Health Survey
year that covers the topic.
b In this chapter, unlike others, the data have not been age standardised because differences in age distributions were too small to make this necessary.
c The 1997 general population data are
weighted according to the weighting scheme for that year's survey. Weighted
bases are not shown because they do not follow the 1999 weighting scheme.
