The Scottish Office Reorganisation

In common with other Government departments, in 1995 The Scottish Office reviewed its organisational and senior management structure. In the course of this exercise, the Permanent Secretary and the Review Team consulted major organisations, including those active in rural affairs, with which The Scottish Office deals in order to hear their views about how effectively the Office dealt with their interests.

From October 1995, a reorganised structure brings together responsibility for education and industry; and agriculture, fisheries and environmental affairs.

These changes bring the opportunity for closer, more effective and integrated working between those responsible for these matters with the aim of delivering real benefits to those whom The Scottish Office serves.
