Rural Scotland People, Prosperity and Partnership

The Scottish Agri-Environment Programme

This programme includes the following Schemes:

  • Environmentally Sensitive Areas: a whole farm approach in which farmers and crofters are eligible to receive a range of payments for measures set out in an agreed conservation plan.

  • Organic Aid: assistance for farmers and crofters who wish to convert to organic production methods.

  • Habitats: payments to encourage farmers and crofters to establish specific habitats of particular conservation value by either agreeing to take the land out of production for 20 years or agreeing to use it for limited grazing only.

  • Heather Moorland: payments to encourage hill farmers and crofters to reduce sheep stocking rates where this would help to encourage heather regeneration.

  • Set-Aside Access: payments to encourage the use of set-aside land for quiet recreation.
