Rural Scotland People, Prosperity and Partnership

PEOPLE AND NATURE

We have assembled a powerful group of policies and agencies to give effect to our objectives and obligations. In 1992 we created Scottish Natural Heritage, which was the first Government agency to have sustainable development as one of its primary concerns and are now establishing the Scottish Environment Protection Agency which will also have to take account of sustainable development in its work. Scottish Natural Heritage has a responsibility to look to the interests of the wider countryside. It seeks to enable people, of all interests and abilities, to enjoy the countryside.
