The Wise Group and Rosswise

The Wise Group has developed an innovative and successful approach which combines high quality training for the unemployed with the provision of environmental and social services. The Group has mainly operated in and around Glasgow, but has also undertaken projects in Newham, in London and in Lanarkshire. Recently, the model used by the Wise Group has been adapted for use in a rural area under a franchise arrangement, through the establishment of Rosswise in the Ross and Cromarty area. Rosswise uses the same principles as the Wise Group, that an intermediate labour market can be created by combining high quality training with experience on practical projects which provide social and environmental services such as home insulation for the elderly, footpath work and the improvement of play areas.
