Rural Scotland People, Prosperity and Partnership

Future Prospects

Economic development in rural areas requires determination. But many modern trends are working in favour of rural areas, for example, improved electronic communications and an ever-increasing demand for a good quality environment and a high quality of life. We believe that the support networks are in place to ensure that continued progress can be made in identifying suitable economic opportunities and in taking advantage of those opportunities. The traditional rural industries of fishing, forestry, agriculture and agricultural products will remain important in many Scottish rural communities but there are also many examples which demonstrate the scope for diversifying the economic base of rural areas.
